I am always thankful to people who read what I am writing or maybe even take in a video or two that I recommend (though I haven't done that in a long time).
Look below for a brief glimpse into what is coming.
Sultan of Sandalla 2 is a story I get asked about a lot. I don't think I can tell you just how much it means to me that people liked the first one. While I do have some of a sequel written I just don't have the motivation for it at the moment. I am curious though as to why the first was so well received. Please leave your comments and let me know.
Further Wonder Woman stories. I have another World War 2 era Wonder Woman story that is nearing completion and an idea for another Wonder Woman based story with Darkseid. That one may or may not include other heroines. That would be four straight Wonder Woman stories and unless inspiration strikes for Sandalla 2, I'll probably take a short break from the character.
I wont lie I was a little disappointed in the lack of response to my Jaina Solo story. That was the one after all that relit my love of writing. I can understand it though as the character is not well known and not even canon anymore. It was truly an epic too and I wonder if the length was too long. Keeping with Star Wars though I have a Padme one started and we will see if that takes off.
Supergirl, I have one story that is probably over seventy-five percent complete. It stars Supergirl and a new character named Red Dawn. I have eluded to this one before and I keep getting to it now and then so it will get finished. Sticking with Supergirl I have another one that is started that I love the direction it could go in.
Batgirl, I have one started staring Stephanie Brown who took up the mantle a few years ago and I loved that character and it was such a change from Barbara Gorden that I had to write one. It is more standard thug vs. heroine fare which is a change from me as I find my villains always seem to be a little more.... shall we say rounded.
If anyone has any ideas. I would say requests but I think we all know from my history I am not one to publish on a strict schedule. If you have anything you want to say leave a comment.
Sandalla has a great villain. He came across both as scary to Diana but also there were some funny moments in dealing with his not always competent henchmen. It gives a feeling of a more realistic world when there is a moment or two with the henchmen that gives a break from the breaking the heroine. Some writers are doing long stories these days of breaking heroines. They focus on the breaking and do little or nothing to relieve the tension so that the tension seems lost for being always there. Sandalla gives you a break from time to time.
ReplyDeleteStaying with Sandalla for a moment, if you want to do other heroines, you could go for Sandalla in the ancient past and have Red Sonja, say, get caught there?
Star Wars brings up a personal observation, I read these for the specific heroine rather than the genre. Most stories have a similar timeline, catch the heroine then get to the sex as quick as possible often with little or no point of view from the heroine. That makes the heroines bland and interchangeable and the stories not much better so it becomes a preference for the writer's style and personal fetish interest than the story itself. Your writing is a lot better than that simplistic format. However, the heroine is still important to me because the fetishes inherent in the peril genre aren't what I am reading for, I'm reading for the character.
That said, the balance between showing the heroine having a possibility of winning vs her inevitable loss in these things is an important one and the Wonder Woman Vow did a pretty good job of balancing that tension. That bait and switch on the heroine is invaluable just make sure the reader doesn't start getting that feeling. That's where long stories can lose me because that bait and switch goes on too long and the tale feels like just torture porn. The heroine has become just a descriptor to put this chapter's fetish on rather than a character in her own right.
Just a few rambling thoughts, thanks for coming back with your talent.
Thanks for the feedback and the reply. Your point is well made regarding the humor. Almost humanizes the whole thing.
DeleteI Know most read it for a particular heroine. I do the same, maybe I just over estimate the cross culture between comics and sci-fi.
For me it's all about the breaking and ending then the sexual component or even the torture. Though I know the torture is often hand and hand with the breaking. So I agree with trying to limit not only the actual torture but torture to the reader and just get to the more fun parts.
Thank you for the thoughts.
Just keep coming back to this blog. This is something special for everybody. I believe you should be able to get everything to what it was before.
ReplyDeleteYou have not posted any updates after this. Are you still there. I love your work and hope to see more in future. Are you taking a break?
